A lot of ladies wish to have eyelash extensions to enhance the appearance of their eyes. A lot of lash techs claim to provide eyelash extension services, but fail to perform proper customer service and lash application. Before any service YOU pay for, always make sure the stylist or technician PERFORMS A CONSULTATION FIRST! Especially a service as tedious and risk taking as eyelash extensions, you want to know you can trust you are in the right hands. Because eyelash extensions are foreign to the eye, along with adhesives, tapes and tweezers that may poke, you want to know your lash tech is educated in the art of lash application! Here is a guide provided to prepare you for questions and concerns you may have before getting eyelash extensions.

Everything in the “beauty” world can be addicting once you try it. Remember the first time you put on makeup? We love eyeliner and mascara as the bare minimum. At the max, it’s all about highlighting and contouring for high cheekbones, a prominent nose and full lips! BUT the most addictive enhancer to ever be discovered is…eyelash extensions! They make you feel sexy and glamorous without trying. From the lightest, classic and natural set to the most dramatic set, you look in the mirror and feel like a walking barbie! Eyelash extensions can never be topped by mascara and eyeliner. Mascara will never accomplish the amounts of volume you can multiply to your eyes at any time! You will look like you were born with perfectly curled lashes, and you’ll look that way 24/7! The pros of eyelash extensions are worth the money and time you will cater to your eyes if you decide to try them.

The catch:

  • They are time-consuming
  • They are high maintenance
  • They are not cheap

Come to your appointment with clean and clear face. THAT’S IT! No need to enhance any of your beauty before your appointment because we’re going to beautify your lashes anyways! What this means is your face must be free of any moisture, makeup (eye makeup, liners and waterproof mascaras*) and oil-based products (skincare lotions and eye creams). You basically want to avoid anything that will interfere with the glue. Even curling your eyelash extensions is not recommended because it bends the natural lash and makes the extensions difficult to adhere. If you have any extracurricular activities that will make you sweat, you may want to take care of them before your lash session. Go to the gym and take a shower in advance because you cannot get your lashes wet for the first 24 hours! This ensures the adhesive has dried completely after application.

Tip: Waterproof mascara leaves an invisible film on the lashes which makes the lashes difficult to adhere. Either no longer use this product, or make sure you avoid wearing it one week prior to your appointment.

Having your eyelash extensions done is not an in and out service. You will be on the massage table for up to two hours! Especially if you’re getting a fill-in/refill (some say fills, some say refills), you’ll need to remove some existing extensions and clean your lashes before applying a new set. Also, you will have to lie very still. This means no food and drink OR talk and text. The eyelash extension process is time consuming and very detail oriented for your lash stylist to place extensions onto your natural lash one by one with tweezers. Clients must be relaxed as some have twitchy eye syndrome, restless leg syndrome and other types of syndromes you don’t realize until you have to be still for a period of time. Things are quicker and smoother with no interruptions. The best remedy for lash application is music. However, we play music while we perform all services. Clients are welcome to bring their music with headphones too!

The best lash extensions are custom-made, which also means the price is high. All lash extension services will require a consultation. Cost varies everywhere, but the starting price is generally around $120 for the basics and up to $300 for the works. Everyone’s eyes are different, which means certain lash formulas will look different on one person versus another. You can bring a photo longing for the Kim Kardashian or Blac Chyna lashes, but you’ll still want a consultation. You’ll want a set that complements your eye shape, lash length, and lifestyle. Most eyelash shops have a menu for consultation to achieve the best suitable look for YOU, the client.

What the consultation consists of:

  • Reading and signing a consent form (We make sure we discuss if you have allergies, prior eye surgeries, health conditions relating to the eye, consent to photo and video for social media, forms of payment and legalities)
  • What type of materials EyeDream uses
  • What type of lash material the client desires (most common are silk and faux mink; silk is shinier and stands out more, whereas mink is most natural looking. Silk also loses its curl over time.)
  • What type of lash thickness, type, style, curl and length recommended for the client (photo guide below, we do not own these graphics)
  • How many lashes will be applied to the client’s eye

At EyeDream we use a minimum of four different lengths for every style we offer. The best lash stylists mix lengths to give lashes a naturally wispy appearance.

NO Cluster Lashes

Cluster lashes are supposed to be the next best thing to eyelash extensions because they are like eyelash extensions, only less time-consuming and cheaper. They are actually the next worst thing! If your lashes are sparse, some salons may suggest clusters, which are three hairs glued together to give your eyes a more voluminous look. Avoid them! Clusters damage your natural lashes by weighing them down with too much glue. The way they are applied is scary because they are glued onto multiple lashes and sometimes touch the eyelids. Eyelash extensions should only be applied as a 1:1 ratio of eyelash extension and natural lash. There should be no visible glue and the extensions should not be touching your lid in any way.

EYE need TLC…

Now that you have lash extensions, all of your daily hygiene routines will change. The way you wash your face and put on your makeup will require extra attention to your lashes FIRST! It sucks to forget your have your extensions if you like to sleep wild, like immersing your face in water or applying a full beat face of makeup! You’ll be upset to lose your lashes on one eye or both by not maintaining and giving your new lashes some TLC.

When washing your face:

Wash your forehead first, then the lower half of your face. Do not scrub your face near your eyes. To dry, simply and lightly dab your face and use a washcloth, wipes, or cotton rounds, not a towel. You can use your ring fingers to use wipes and wipe around your eyes with oil-free cleansers or products you normally use.

When applying makeup:

EyeDream does not recommend using eyelash curlers or any types of mascara (extensions-safe or waterproof). You just balled out on eyelash extensions that are enhancing your natural eyes. No need to cake them up with more products and chemicals. This can lead to clumped lashes, premature falling out and natural lash damage. For eyeshadows, powders and glitters will also cause buildup. For eyeliners, stick with gel and liquid, NO pencils.

When going to bed:

Sleep on your back as best as you can. Sleeping on your face or your side will cause your lashes to fall or bend and go wild.

& don’t forget to brush us!

The worst is the buildup of dirt and debris at the root of your lashes over time. The most important tip over all is brushing and cleansing your lash extensions daily. You may buy lash cleanser or make your own (recommended).

Mix a drop of tear-free baby shampoo with distilled water to thoroughly clean the top of your lids and the bottoms of your eyes.

Your lashes can look wild upon waking up or after showering. Use a mascara wand to brush your lashes by looking down and holding your lashes with your pointer finger underneath for support. Twirl the mascara wand against your lashes, combing in an upward motion, brushing out the fluff. Takes 10 seconds! Don’t forget! This makes them last longer.

Do not remove your lashes without a pro present! You’ll end up breaking and damaging your own lashes and it’s not worth it. They are supposed to and will fall naturally like normal lashes. All your eyelashes are in different growth phases so your lash extensions will shed with them. This is why it’s important to book your refills in advance. EyeDream typically recommends a three to four week appointment because that’s how long extensions usually last. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself back for refills before then. They’re addicting!
